Could someone give me a brief summary of what university level microbiology is like?

I’m a biochem major, and I did take microbio in my first year. Now I’m moving on to second year, and I have the option of taking a couple more micro courses (and some others) which allow me to get a bioctechnology specialization within my major.

Now my first year, I slept through a lot of my microbio lectures (I was a little bored -I’m more into genetics and I do realize that bacterial genetics is supposed to be an interesting field?). I am also very germophobic, so my Microbio lab seemed nightmarish. I don’t know but I keep hearing it gets harder as you advance in the field. So would it be wise to take the higher level micro courses for the biotech specialization?

It would help if you could tell me a little bit about what you learn in the higher courses? Maybe it’s different, and I might like it? Thanks =)

University Reccomendations for Biotech?

Got any reccomendations? I’m mostly interested in artificial evolution, cloning, genome mapping, etc…
@Goof: I’m looking for universities to attend, but courses would be helpful too. Sorry for the confusion.
